On 23 March 2014, the World Health Organisation confirmed an outbreak of Ebola virus disease in southeastern Guinea.  This is the frst time an outbreak has been diagnosed in this part of Africa.

By 16 June, 398 cases (264 deaths) had been reported in Conakry, Guekedou, Macenta, Kissidougou, Dabola, Djingaraye, Telimele, Boffaand Kouroussa.

Cases have been confirmed in northern Liberia following exposure in Guinea, and subsequently with local transmission.
