World Mosquito Day - 20th August

Details:

In 1897 Sir Donald Ross cultured mosquitos from larvae and fed them on blood from a patient suffering from malaria. He dissected one of the mosquitos and confirmed the presence of the malarial parasite in the gut of the mosquito. The date was 20th August, 1897. This provided evidence of the link between the mosquito being the carrier of the malarial parasite between humans.
